Micro Brewery

Tucked away on Cork’s historic North Mall, Franciscan Well isn’t just a brewpub, it’s a piece of Ireland’s craft beer history.

When we first opened our doors in 1998, we became Ireland’s seventh microbrewery at a time when craft beer was still a novelty. Today, only three of those original seven breweries remain, and we’re proud to be one of them. Over the past two decades, we’ve remained true to our roots, brewing exceptional beers in small batches while staying committed to quality, tradition, and innovation.

Craftsmanship Over Mass Production

Unlike large-scale production breweries that churn out beer by the millions, our on-site microbrewery produces just 1,700 hectolitres per year. This allows us to focus on craftsmanship, carefully selecting the finest ingredients and using time-honoured brewing methods to create unique, flavourful beers. Every pint poured at Franciscan Well carries the care and expertise of our brewers, ensuring that quality is never sacrificed for quantity.

A Vision That Lives On

Franciscan Well was founded in 1998 by Shane Long, a pioneer of the Irish craft beer movement. His passion for brewing was the driving force behind the creation of the brewpub, and that same passion continues today. Unlike many independent breweries that have been bought out by larger companies, Shane still owns and operates the microbrewery, ensuring that every drop brewed here reflects the original vision and dedication that started it all.

In recent years, Shane expanded his brewing legacy by launching Original 7, a new beverage company that has brought even more exciting beers to life. This venture has allowed us to experiment with fresh ideas, new ingredients, and innovative brewing techniques while staying true to our heritage.
