Nestled in the heart of Cork City, the Franciscan Well Brewpub is where history, craftsmanship, and community come together. Founded in 1998 on the site of a 13th-century Franciscan monastery, our brewpub blends centuries-old brewing traditions with modern innovation, making us one of Ireland’s most renowned craft beer destinations.
A Beer Garden Steeped in History
Stepping into our beer garden, you’ll be surrounded by the ancient stone walls of the former monastery, dating back to 1219. These walls stood through the centuries, with some stones even used to help build the iconic Shandon Bells Tower during the Penal Laws era. At the heart of our site lies the original well, once used by the Franciscan monks for brewing beer and believed to have had curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes.

REBEL RED
A malty traditional Irish Red Ale. Light carbonation and dark fruit flavours make Rebel Red a refreshing ale that packs a flavour punch.
CHIEFTAIN IPA
A copper coloured, citra hop IPA with an aroma of tropical fruits and the intense flavour of grapefruit and mango. Our best seller and no wonder why!
SHANDON STOUT
A deliciously intense, well-balanced Premium Irish stout with notes of chocolate and coffee. This creamy, Cork style dry stout has all the roasted malt character that defines an Irish stout.
WELL HAZY
A refreshing Session Pale Ale with an amber appearance, light citrus aroma and a balanced bitterness. If you’re looking for something tropical and fruity with a clean finish, Well Hazy is the one for you.

We take pride in our award-winning craft beers, brewed on-site using the finest ingredients. Our rotating guest taps ensure there’s always something new to discover, while our woodfired pizza kitchen perfectly complements our brews.

Beyond great beer, we offer immersive brewery tours and tastings, where visitors can explore our rich heritage, learn about our brewing process, and even try their hand at pouring our signature Shandon Stout. We also host live music sessions, open mic comedy nights, and beer festivals, making the Franciscan Well a vibrant hub for both locals and visitors.
We did the brewery tour, and our guide was great! The beers were some of the best we had in Ireland, and the story of the business is neat. The taproom has a great vibe, and if we lived nearby, we’d spend a lot of time here.
